A button at crosswalks in Japan

I sometimes find this button on a street pole at a crosswalk or an intersection.

This button is for people with a visual impairments.

It constantly makes a beeping sound so they can notice the crosswalk and the button.

It also provides an audio signal to indicate when it’s safe to cross the street.
